Overview
The Hampta Pass hike in Himachal Pradesh encapsulates many colours of nature to create a striking panorama that includes verdant canopied valleys on one side and bleak earthy mountains on the other. Only on the Hampta Pass hike can you observe a meadow with spring flowers blooming, reflected by a dramatic backdrop of craggy terrains. The Hampta pass serves as a lookout point from where you can see two equally gorgeous aspects of Himachal’s geography. Looking north, you’ll see the spectacular Lahaul valley rising out to a huge expanse of ground devoid of flora, while looking south, you’ll see the emerald green trees that grace the Kullu valley.
Although the Hampta Pass trek is only 26 kilometres long, the trail’s ever-changing landscape makes it feel like one long walk through the four seasons, where you can feel the warmth of golden sun rays, see spring flowers blooming in the meadows, and feel the cold that seeps through the deserts of Lahaul – Spiti.
Trek Itinerary
The party will meet at the pick-up site by 11:00 a.m. for a briefing session with the trek leader, who will deliver all relevant information regarding the journey. After that, we'll go to Jobra, which is at an elevation of 9,379 feet and serves as the basecamp for the Hampta Pass trip. Even though the route from Manali has several hairpin curves, the panoramic vista of Kullu Valley that you get to see makes for a picturesque journey. We will arrive at Jobra after passing through dense woods of pine, maple, and silver birch trees. We'll begin our walk towards Chika after relaxing for a time. The sights you see while trekking are peaceful and rejuvenating. The environment that the walking track affords is stunning, to say the least, with rich green woods of maple, oak, and deodar trees and the Rani Nallah stream running through meadows. In Chika, we'll pitch up camp. It's ideal for spending tranquil moments, with its huge tapestry of greenery and open skies above. In the evening, dinner will be given, followed by an overnight stay in Chika.
We'll leave after an early morning meal and go to Balu Ka Ghera. Balu means sand in Hindi, and the track lives up to its name as the short meadow stroll quickly gives way to pebbles and loose rocks, classifying this section of the hike as moderate. The beauty of this walk is that you will be able to observe nature's magic in the shape of stunning sceneries. On the one side, the rushing Jwara river appears to be following your every step, while the majestic Dhauladhar hills invite you closer. In the midst of the lush canopies, a stream of a waterfall would be waiting. As you approach the first part of Balu ka Ghera, known as Chota Balu ka Ghera, the landscape begins to flatten. As you continue travelling, the ground will get more tough, with the rocks becoming increasingly spaced out, making it difficult to navigate. We'll soon arrive at Balu Ka Ghera, where we'll pitch up tent among the mountains beyond which lies the Hampta Pass. We'll have dinner and spend the night under the stars in the evening.
After breakfast, we will go to Sia goru, our next campground. Because the entire path is made up of rocks, the descent is more difficult, which is why we must be cautious. We'll pass over Hampta Pass on the way, which is a magnificent trail with a river running through it. Blooming flowers in rainbow colours are perched on the bank, creating a beautiful image. The Deo Tibba peak will also be visible, calling you closer. We'll begin our descent after taking in the scenery from Hampta Pass. The downward track is made up of loose stones and slick dirt. A winding route will bring you to the valley below, and after a time of walking, you will arrive at the bottom. The opening that appears leads to Sia Goru, where we will camp for the night and spend the remainder of the day at leisure. In the evening, dinner will be given, followed by an overnight stay in Sia Goru.
We will begin our downward walk towards Chatru after an early morning meal. The huge region is devoid of flora, yet the treacherous slopes provide the adrenaline rush that you may be seeking. Because the descent is difficult, you may need to be extra cautious. We'll drive to Chandratal, a gorgeous lake 45 kilometres distant from the campground, once we get in Chatru. The journey, however, would only be feasible if the weather permitted, as inclement weather may be a deterrent. We'll return to Chatru, where we'll set up base camp, after taking in the splendour of nature and doing a brief sightseeing trip. In the evening, dinner will be given, followed by an overnight stay in Chatru.
We will begin our return journey from Chatru to Manali after early morning tea and breakfast. Because the Rohtang Pass is located on this route, you will be able to see it while driving. This drive is made much more enjoyable by the breathtaking scenery. The party will dissemble and part ways with good recollections once they arrive at Manali. Tour has come to an end.
